Teledentistry is the provision of patient dental care at a distance, using information and communication technologies, including videoconferencing. The regulatory authorities have given Ontario dentists the authorization to use teledentistry during the current state of emergency.

The current state of emergency has suspended most in-person dental visits. Teledentistry will assist us in providing emergency care by assessing your child’s oral healthcare needs and determining the next steps for management. A full emergency examination will not be possible using teledentistry alone and teledentistry does not replace a complete oral examination. After this virtual consultation, recommendations for your child may be provided and it may be determined that your child requires a fuller examination and/or treatment in person. 

While communicating electronically with you, we will use reasonable means to protect the security and confidentiality of information sent and received using teledentistry. However, electronic communication includes certain risks and It is not possible to completely secure the information.

Electronic communications are at risk of being forwarded, intercepted, circulated, stored, or even changed without the knowledge or permission of the dentists, their team or the patient/parents/guardians. They may be misdirected, resulting in increased risk of being received by unintended and unknown recipients. Employers and online services may have a legal right to inspect and keep electronic communications that pass through their system.  

Kids and Teens Dentistry is not responsible for information loss due to technical failures associated with software or internet service providers. To improve security and confidentiality, we recommend you avoid using an employer’s or other third parties computer. Please be mindful that technological problems may give rise to service limitations.
